Khatu Shyam Ji Phalgun Mela Guide

Navigate the grand annual fair of Khatu Dham Sikar with complete safety, queue, and Nishan Yatra guidelines.

Overview of the Grand Phalgun Mela

The **Phalgun Mela** is the largest annual festival of Khatu Shyam Ji, held in the Hindu month of Phalgun (typically late February or March). It runs from Phalgun Sudi Ashtami (8th day) to Dwadashi (12th day). During these five days, over 30 to 40 lakh pilgrims from across the globe visit Sikar to obtain Baba's blessings. The entire 17 km road from Ringas to Khatu village is decorated, and local groups set up bhandara stalls offering free food and shelter.

Nishan Yatra Rules & Guidelines

The **Nishan Yatra** is the central ritual of the mela, representing carrying Barbarik's flag of sacrifice. The Nishan is a triangular flag made of saffron, red, or golden silk fabric, decorated with coconut, peacock feathers, and images of Baba Shyam. Devotees start their walk from Ringas Junction and carry the flag barefoot, offering it at the temple exit. Please follow these rules:

  • Use clean wooden or plastic poles for the flag.
  • Avoid running or pushing in the crowd while holding the Nishan.
  • Dispose of plastic wrappers and waste in bins along the path.

Crowd Management & Safety Tips

With lakhs of pilgrims walking together, keep these safety points in mind:

  • Pre-Book Accommodations: Dharamshalas and hotels in Khatu town sell out months in advance. Always book stays beforehand.
  • Avoid Vehicle Travel: Road entry to Khatu village is blocked for private vehicles during the mela. You must be prepared to walk.
  • Medical Support: Free medical camps are set up every 500 meters along the route. Visit them immediately if you feel tired or injured.
